Almost as if they all got together while you slept to plan a surprise party for you. Because they know how much you love autumn colors.

But that first snow that comes in silently like a whisper from a new boyfriend. Someone you haven’t known for long but you know that you dream better when they are beside you. The snow that looks untouchable and makes you want to cry for all the time that has passed since you last called your family back in Texas and for all the mistakes you know you’ll continue to make. Even though you say you’ll try harder.

And you wish the city were a tangible thing that you could throw your arms around. You walk around the city and touch your heart with your hands and try to send this insurmountable love that you feel to everyone you meet. Because everyone should have a chance to feel this blissful.

I’m in love with New York City. I’m in love with hot summer rain. The kind that makes you feel dangerous and alive. Being 22 has never felt so devious and exciting. This night could be your last, but you fall back into the open arms of the city without second thought. You wake up from drinking for 7 straight hours and get yourself ready to do it all over again. Where you go to a new bar and everyone is your friend and you get compliments on your new outfit.

I’m in love with New York City. I’m in love with this city that can make you feel so empty that you wake up aching, and so full that you feel like you might explode. This city that allows you to make yourself over and over and over and yet still finding another girl in the LES that you can’t stop thinking about. You have to recreate her look! That first day that you know where you’re going because 6th Ave only runs uptown, so we should go this way. It gives you a plot that you can stake with your name. It’s not a large spot, but it’s yours. And this little bit of nothing means so much more than so many somethings. You are lucky. You are magic. You are New York.
